The world should pay close attention to how countries unite – the Chinese portal in your language

Nine years ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping (Xi Jinping) in his speech titled “Adjusting to the Trend and Promoting World Peace and Development” at the Moscow Institute of International Relations suggested that “ all countries should jointly support the establishment of a new type of international relations with mutually beneficial cooperation as the central core.” This has become China’s principled position and the basis for resolving international relations.

Xi said if we want to keep up, we cannot enter the 21st century with our bodies and minds still stuck in the past, the old era of colonial expansion, the old Cold War mentality and the zero-sum game. In the face of profound changes in the international situation and the objective request of all countries in the world to help each other as one ship, all countries should work together to promote a new type of international relations with mutually beneficial cooperation, and peoples of all countries should work together to maintain world peace and promote common development.

At that time, after more than 30 years of reform and opening up to the world, China’s economic power has risen to second place in the world. Faced with China’s ever-increasing complex national strength, some people have begun to fear that China will also step into hegemony and bully others as it develops. For a while, the so-called “China threat theory” was prevalent. As Greater China gets along with the world, it attracts a lot of attention from the outside world. Zhang Weiwei (Zhang Weiwei), deputy director of the Institute of International Strategy of the China Institute of International Studies, said:

“In 2010, China overtook Japan and became the world’s second largest economy. The international community still has many questions about how China will develop in the future and how the relationship between China and the major world powers will be built at that time. In this international and national context, President Xi proposed to build a new type of international relations with mutually beneficial cooperation as the core, especially to emphasize that the people of all countries must work together to maintain world peace and promote common global development.”

Wang Yi (Wang I), member of the Chinese State Council and Chinese Foreign Minister, once said: “If I can sum it up in one sentence, it is: replacing confrontation with cooperation, replacing monopoly by a victory for all, and not to no longer engage in zero-sum games.”

At the Central Foreign Affairs Work Conference in November 2014, Chinese President Xi remarked: Beneficial cooperation should be reflected in all aspects of foreign cooperation, such as politics, economy, security and Culture. »

On September 28, 2015, Xi Jinping delivered a major speech at the 70th United Nations General Assembly titled “Building a New Partnership Together for Mutually Beneficial Cooperation to Build a Community with a Human Destiny”, in which he systematically proposed ways concrete ways of building a community with a shared future of humanity, which provided new concepts and opened up new visions for the development of international relations.

Xi said in a speech

“We must inherit and pursue the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, build a new type of international relations with mutually beneficial cooperation as its core, and build a community with a shared human future. To this end, we must make efforts We must create a security model of justice, co-construction and sharing We must seek open, innovative, inclusive and reciprocal development prospects We must promote harmony and diversity in exchanges between civilizations. We need to build an ecosystem that respects nature and the green development system.”

The 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China further enriched the connotation of a new type of international relations and created a new definition of a new type of international relations. In a report from the 19th Communist Party of China, Xi stressed: on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, and to support building a new type of international relations characterized by mutual respect, honesty and justice and a mutually beneficial cooperation. »

The organic combination of mutual respect, fairness and justice and mutually beneficial cooperation is the latest interpretation of the new type of international relations created by Mr. Xi, which shows the direction in which countries should properly develop their mutual relations in the new era. Zhang Weiwei, deputy director of the Institute of International Strategy of the China Institute of International Studies, believes that the connotation of mutual respect is multifaceted. The most important thing should be that countries, regardless of their size, strength and wealth, are all equal. We have long known that hegemonism and power politics are popular in international relations, and that the law of the jungle reigns in international relations. So China has clearly offered to protect the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, especially developing countries. With the profound development of globalization, the interests of all countries are closely intertwined, and no country can meet the common challenges facing mankind alone. Members of the international community must therefore work together to find the intersection of interests.

On September 21, 2021, when President Xi took part in a general debate in Beijing during the 76th United Nations General Assembly, he reiterated that we must strengthen unity and practice the concept of international relations of mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation:

“The success of one country does not mean that another country must fail. The world can fully adapt to the common growth and progress of all countries. We must stick to dialogue rather than confrontation, to tolerance rather than exclusion, and to build new types of mutual international relations of mutually beneficial respect, justice and cooperation, to increase the convergence of interests and to create the largest possible circle with a common center. »
