Do you want to furnish a room, an apartment, or are you building or planning to build a house? Home Design 3D offers a simple and intuitive user interface where you can easily process the whole project. There are three view modes: classic two-dimensional floor plan, three-dimensional bird’s-eye view, or you can look at the design through the eyes of a resident/visitor.
What does Home Design 3D offer?
As described in the Play Store, the app strikes a balance between ease of use and a huge collection of features. In Home Design 3D you can easily design your home, plan a change or a renovation, or watch how the new living room or children’s bedroom equipment will look like in new colors. There are two operating modes:
In 2D, you can draw rooms, install windows and doors, and add walls and partitions. You can easily change the height or thickness of the walls, the shape of the room and its orientation (thanks to the compass function). By simply swiping, you can choose from hundreds of objects, which you can then modify to match the exterior and interior of your home.
In 3D mode, you can get the most out of your project – thanks to the brand new 3D engine, you can easily see a photorealistic preview of your design. There are day and night functions that show you exactly where the light will fall at different times of the day. You can choose from the textures and edit your project either with a double click or with a simple “drag and drop”.
The main features and functions are:
- Easy to use and intuitive interface.
- Drag any object or piece of furniture wherever you want (windows, doors, tables, desks, rugs, etc.).
- Wide range of functions (copy/paste, magnet, individual walls, wall height adjustment,…).
- More than 800 different objects for home and garden.
- Adjustment of the dimensions of each element (walls, objects, furniture, etc.).
- New 3D engine for photorealistic rendering.
- Visit your home in 3D with two navigation modes (first person view and bird’s eye view).
- Advanced customization options – all tiles and materials can be customized.
- Support for phones and tablets.
- It does not require an internet connection.
How does Home Design 3D work in practice?
We installed the application in version 1.0.0 on the Nexus 7 editorial staff with the official Android 5.0. We were a bit surprised by the size of the installation package – 447MB is a lot on this system, however, this is de facto a graphical program where similar volumes are understandable. However, this is also associated with a relatively long time for downloading and subsequent installation. The actual launch of the program is relatively quick, you will look at the introductory logo for a moment and you will quickly find that the application is running in landscape mode.
Subsequently, a notification appears stating that it is not possible to save projects in the free variant, with an offer to purchase the full version.
To begin with, a sketch of a two-room apartment is prepared, which can be further modified or completely “dig up”.
The controls are intuitive: when you click on an object, you can start to resize it (the exact size is displayed in the drawing), move it, rotate it or delete it. Changing the thickness, length and width of the walls is also easy.
You can add new objects via the side menu, where you can choose walls, windows, doors, openings, stairs, but also furniture, classified into several categories (tables, beds, cabinets, appliances, lights, …).
Each object can be viewed literally from all sides before being inserted into the project. The application is quite logical, so for example, it does not allow placing a window in the middle of a room without a wall.
By button 3D in the top bar, you can switch to a three-dimensional view, offering two modes: either you can look at your project through the eyes of an apartment/house occupant, or from a bird’s eye view. In both cases, it is possible to move the image arbitrarily.
Additionally, textures such as colors, wallpapers, carpets, and other surfaces can be changed in this mode. Control is again simple in this direction – just select the surface from the menu and drag it to the appropriate place in the image.
Toolbars can be turned off via the arrow button in the upper left corner – then you can enjoy an unobstructed view of your work. In the settings you can influence units (metric or imperial), automatic object snapping, specify default wall thickness and wall height. In 2D mode, it is also possible to activate dimensioning.
Overall, we find the working principle to be very intuitive, even for users who have never worked with a similar type of application. Everything is subject to easy and understandable control. We will probably have a small complaint about the operation of the button Backwhich in some cases leads to the immediate termination of the application without any request, which, since the free version does not allow you to save the project, will not be very pleasant.
Free or paid?
The free version is basically not “cut” in terms of design features. The only limitation, but the most fundamental still, is the inability to save and reload the project. In this version, the application will be perfectly used for testing, but in real deployment, you will probably have to pay 198 CZK for the full version, or 297 CZK for the “Gold” variant, via in-app purchases.
Although it’s a relatively large and demanding program, the two-year-old Nexus 7 tablet ran relatively smoothly and smoothly. Even in the 3D view, we didn’t notice any jamming or rendering issues.
We like the intuitive way of working and the wide range of objects that can be inserted into a project and worked on later. Everyone will certainly choose, moreover, with regard to the possibilities of adaptation, almost every little thing can be adjusted according to their ideas, so that the result corresponds to the intended intention.
Home Design 3D has been installed by more than five thousand users so far and its rating in Play Store is 4.3. You can use the 447MB installer package on devices with Android 4.0 and above.
